We all have that one item of clothing we reach for again and again. Mine is a jean jacket I picked up at a Goodwill a few years ago, that from this moment on will lovingly be referred to as Jean.
It was a sunny day and like many days of shopping I was meandering through aisles to see if I could find something. I had been dreaming of a jean jacket for awhile and just couldn’t find the right one. Something drew me over to the blazer section, one I rarely touched in those days. And there she was. Hanging so sweetly like she’d been sitting there waiting for me to arrive. I hadn’t come looking but I’d always had this idea of what the ideal would be and like I had conjured her up in my head, there she was. She also sat next to a friend who I decided to pick up also. You always have to have choices. Plus I didn’t want her to get a big head, knowing I’d felt that special connection the moment I saw her. After all, we were meeting under less than ideal circumstances. She’d just been tossed and left to be picked up for someone else to love. I didn’t want to be the rebound. I do have standards.
I tried on both jackets. The friend was a little big while little Miss perfect Jean hung nicely but then the magic happened when I tried to close it. Full disclosure it was a little snug, BUT I discovered this jacket had a little stretch. I don’t know about you, but I feel a little of flexibility in a relationship is paramount. Jean’s ability to give a little told me that she just might be the one. It was a match made in heaven, my perfect denim soul mate.
I left Goodwill that day with no doubts and completely committed. I haven’t regretted a day since. She curls up at the bottom a little and at first I thought I could fix that with a little pressing. Now, I realize it’s just part of her quirks and I love her just the way she is.
